I come from a Vedic (Hindu) background. You may know that what is now called Hinduism includes eighteen Puranas. They are stories that help us absorb what dry philosophical principles cannot always convey. The ancient sages understood this thousands of years ago, long before neuroscience began studying how the human brain works. The human mind is wired for stories. We think in stories all the time.
